Programme Overview
Programme Aims The BSc Agribusiness programme was established in 1998 with the view of promoting the growth and development of agribusinesses in Ghana through human capacity building to cope with recent technological and innovative advances in the agro-industry. The programme aims to produce graduates in agribusiness with an entrepreneurial orientation Programme Objectives The objectives are to provide a sound grounding in agronomy, animal husbandry, economics and computer application and commerce-related courses such as economics, accounting, marketing human resource management and project management. In addition, the programme will promote the development of Agribusiness through human capacity building that enables students to understand and take advantage of recent technological and innovative advances in the agribusiness sector. Further, the programme will produce graduates who are skilled in critical observation and thinking, able to analyse agribusiness systems that produce food, fibre and agricultural products, and competent to manage agribusiness enterprises. Target Group The programme is designed for both regular and mature students in the public and private sectors. Job Opportunities/Employment Prospects Graduates of the programme can work as: Commercial Farm Managers Research Officers Project and Credit Officers in Banks and NGO’s Officers in Management & Marketing Consulting firms Officers in Agricultural Processing and Export firms Officers in Agricultural Input & Supply Firms Entrepreneurs in Agricultural Production, Input Supply & Processing Sector Supply & Process Sector Work in MDAs (Ministries, Department and Agencies) Commodities Brokers and Analyst
Domestic Requirements
Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE):

6 passes with aggregate 24 or better and including 3 core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and 3 Elective subjects including Biology, Chemistry,

Physics and Mathematics. All passes should be grade D (SSSCE) or better.

West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE):

6 passes with aggregate 36 or better and including 3 core subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; and 3 Elective subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. All courses should be grade C6 (WASSCE) or better.

GCE Entrants:

Credits in 5 subjects at O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics and 3 ‘A’ Level passes in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Mathematics.

Mature Applicants:

Applicants must be at least 25 years with Science background – Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or elective Mathematics- and must pass an examination conducted by the University. Such applicants must be holders of Bachelor of Science related degrees. (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Human Biology) or HND (Dispensing Technology/Laboratory Technology. Any application that comes without the above named qualifications will however be evaluated on its own merits.
